Thomas Ewing Junior High School between 8 AM and 8 PM. Games last

- My child is home schooled. Can he play Biddy
Basketball?
5th & 6th graders~ Children who are home schooled are eligible to play in
the Biddy League if they are in the 5th or 6th grade and live in Lancaster.
They will try out for the school team of the area that they reside. For
example, if your child would go to Tarhe if he attended public school,
he/she will try out for the Tarhe Crush/Chiefs. Please see tryout dates on
the home page of our website.
- When and where are Biddy Basketball Practices?
Biddy Basketball Practices are twice a week, one hour each
night. The practices take place at the elementary schools in
Lancaster. One practice is at a full court gym (East, South, or
Tarhe), and one practice is at a half court gym (Cedar Heights, Medill, Sanderson, Tallmadge, or
West). The place and time is chosen by the coach at the Coaches Meeting
before the season begins.
- If my child does not make the Biddy League, can he
play in the Junior Biddy?
Yes!
Your child is encouraged to play in the Junior Biddy. The Junior Biddy
is designed to strengthen the playing ability of
each player. The
league will help develop your child's skills to play in the Biddy League and
beyond. There are no cuts made in Junior Biddy.
- If my child does not play in the Junior Biddy League
in the 3rd or 4th grade, does this mean he will not make the Biddy team in the
5th grade?
Though the Junior Biddy League is a great opportunity to learn the
fundamentals of basketball and is recommended, it does not mean that your
child won't make the Biddy League in the later grades if he doesn't play.
Prior playing experience is a good idea whether its from our Junior Biddy
League or from other play. Your child has every chance to make
the Biddy League without Junior Biddy experience.
- Is my child guaranteed to play in every game?
Yes. Every
player on a Biddy team will play a minimum of 4 minutes of each game.
Players in the Junior Biddy will play at least 8 minutes in each season
game. However,
sometimes a player may not get into the game at the exact time indicated
on the substitutions chart.
This may be due to the sub time coming during a play. If this
happens, the sub will go into the game as soon as
the play is over.
A player who is
being disciplined for missing practices, using foul language during
practices/games, etc. may play less time. This is to the discretion
of the coach.
- Are the Blue and Gold Divisions divided into teams in any particular
way?
No. The teams
are separated into divisions blindly. They are not placed in
divisions based on skill or rank, or by any other
method. There is no method to the divisions.

games.
Yes,

More information will be posted soon!
- Can my daughter play Biddy Basketball
and
cheer for the Boys Biddy?
Yes,
your daughter is able to play in the Girls Biddy and cheer for the Boys Biddy.
The Girls Biddy and Boys Biddy Games are at different times, so she will be able
to make both games. However, please remember that she will need to be at both
team practices weekly. These practices should not be on the same nights.
If
your son is interested in both cheerleading and basketball, due to the game
schedule, he will most likely have to choose one or the other. The only way that
a boy can play basketball and cheer is if his school has 2 teams, and he cheers
for one and plays for the other. The schools with two teams are Cedar Heights
Wasps/Hornets, East Wildcats/Bobcats, & Sanderson Sonics/Bulls. Example: He
plays on the Boys Biddy Cedar Heights Hornets, and cheers for the Cedar Heights
Wasps.
- What is the grade/age requirement for Biddy

child must be in the 5th or 6th grade and attend the Lancaster City Schools

Miscellaneous
Questions
- When do practices start? When do games
start?
Practices
begin the first or second week of November.
Games
begin the last Saturday in November. The season is 10 weeks long, plus tournaments. The
season will end in March.
- Will there be practices
on Wednesdays or Sundays?
There are no practices on Sundays ever! However, it is up to the coach
to decide if Wednesday will be one of his/her regular practice days.
- My child does not attend the Lancaster City Schools.
Is she/he still able to play in the Biddy Basketball Leagues?
Your child is eligible to play in the JUNIOR BIDDY Leagues. See the
home page of our website for more information and for exact dates of the Junior Biddy
Draft.

of the coach.
- If my child quits the team, do I get the $45 registration fee back?
No, you will not get
the registration fee back if your child quits.
- The rules state that "No players may participate in any other
basketball league or tournament during the regular season and tournament
and be a regular player of the Lancaster Biddy Basketball Program during
the same season". Does this include Upwards Basketball?
Yes, the rules
include all other basketball leagues and tournaments. This also
includes Upwards. See question below for explanation of this rule.
- Why can't my child play both Biddy Basketball
and a traveling or tournament league?
There are several
reasons. One, in the past, children who've played in several leagues missed
practices and sometimes games. This is unfair, not only to the rest of
the team players, but to the coach (who donates his/her time to teaching
the children), as well. Two, we have had parents (and players) who are
FAIRLY upset because their children make all practices and games and
play the same amount of time that children who do not make all practices
and games. (Biddy Basketball has a rule that all players are given
a fair amount of playing time per game.) Three, practices and
games for Biddy and Junior Biddy Leagues take up 2 nights per week, and
1 to 2 hours each Saturday.
We have the best interests of the children in mind here.
- If I have a child playing on a Biddy team in the morning and a Junior
Biddy team in the afternoon, do I have to pay for both games?
Yes. If you
are attending games at different schools, you must pay at each school.
If you are attending multiple games at the same school, you do not have to
pay an
entrance fee for each game (at the same school). Boys and Girls
Biddy Leagues play at Thomas Ewing, and Boys Junior and Girls Junior Biddy
Leagues play at General Sherman.
- If I am unable to pay the registration fee for my child, is he/she
unable to play?
No
child will be turned away due to financial difficulties. If you are unable to pay the registration fee, please contact the coach of the
team, or
the LBBA. We can make arrangements for financial assistance.
